ADVANCED COMPUTER NETWORKS TERM PROJECT

AIM: To understand the effect of DSR promiscuous mode on power of the nodes of the MANET under various conditions of mobility and density.

A term paper has to be submitted after doing the project by analysing the results of your simulation. You can use this sample paper as a template for your term paper.

See the HINTS FOR PROJECT to do your project.

Choose ONE of the following scenarios.

SCENARIO 1: This varies the density of the nodes in the MANET. Simulate a MANET with 10, 25 and 50 nodes in an area of 500 X 500m. The mobility of the nodes is between 5-10m/s. Have 5 data connections for CBR/TCP flows. In the higher density scenario, simulate with 10 data connections also, in addition to 5 connections. Turn promiscuous mode on/off. Measure the overall power level of the nodes in the MANET. Measure the packet delivery ratio for the connections when promiscuous mode is on/off. Try to explain how this relates to the power dissipation observed in the MANET.

SCENARIO 2: This varies the mobility of the nodes in the MANET. Simulate a MANET 50 nodes in an area of 500 X 500m. The mobility of the nodes is set to 0-5m/s, 0-10m/s and 0-20m/s. Have 10 data connections for CBR/TCP flows. Turn promiscuous mode on/off. Measure the overall power level of the nodes in the MANET. Measure the packet delivery ratio for the connections when promiscuous mode is on/off. Try to explain how this relates to the power dissipation observed in the MANET.

For both the scenarios, the power level of the battery is initialized with a value of 100 joules.
