Digital Image Processing by Gonzalez and Woods

This is an elective course for MCA (V Semester), MTech (I Semester) students with an interest in processing image data.

An image is the representation on a computer of the visual or pictorial information from the real world. Humans use pictorial information for a variety of tasks - recognition, danger avoidance, appreciation of beauty, etc. - and image processing attempts to develop algorithms that assist in mimicking such activities. In particular, image processing involves a number of algorithms that enhance and filter images to highlight what is important for a specific application.

Traditionally, image processing dealt almost exclusively with grayscale (what we humans call black-and-white) images and the current course also does the same. There is a separate elective on Colour Image Processing which, however, benefits greatly from a knowledge of the topics covered in this course.

Also note that the textbook forms only the baseline and there will be significant extensions and deviations in the class material
