Mobile & cloud Computing: From Exploiting Cloud in Science to Enabling Internet of Things

Dr. Satish Narayana Srirama, University of Tartu, Estonia.

DATE & TIME : 16 February 2015, 3.00 PM

VENUE: Semianr Room, SCIS

ABSTRACT

Cloud computing seems to suit well in solving resource greedy computing problems. However, migrating enterprise systems and auto-scaling those on the cloud infrastructure is tricky. In addition, the applications/algorithms must be reduced to frameworks that can successfully exploit the cloud resources, like the MapReduce framework. Meanwhile, Mobile Cloud is arising as a prominent domain that is trying to bring the massive advantages of the cloud to the resource constrained smartphones. These benefits include extended battery lifetime, improved storage capacity and increased processing power. The study is observed to be relevant also in Internet of Things (IoT) domain. Content of the lecture The session is targeted at introducing the core concepts of cloud computing and the research being performed at the University of Tartu in the domain. The lecture discusses cloud computing, migrating enterprise and scientific computing applications to the cloud, Map Reduce, mobile cloud and IoT.
